My family is considering moving back to Texas within the next 8-12 months. 3 1/2 years ago we lived in Galveston for a year. We now live in California. We have the option of living in either Houston or Dallas areas. If possible we would like to find 5+ acres and a nice home for some horses or lakefront living for fishing while still having a commute of 45 min or less to the city. Is this even possible in either area for under $225,000? I would love to hear some opinions.

Yes you can. Try looking out in Rockwall, Heath and McClendon-Chisholm (located just 30 minutes from Downtown Dallas) off of I30. I just pulled it up on realtor.com and found PLENTY of homes and land available in your price range. Lake Ray Hubbard is right there so you can find some that are lakefront or you can find acreage. I have several friends that live on acreage out there. One is subdividing their old family farm right now and selling it. I do not recall the lot sized but I can find out or give you their contact info if you want to pm me. They are getting ready to build their house out there. I have several other friends that live out there either on the lake or acreage (or both). Rockwall is growing and so there are amenities galore w/ the new Harbor development w/ the theater, marina and restaurants and shops overlooking the lake. Bass Pro just opened up their latest store across the lake in Garland. Rockwall is still like "small town living" but very close to the "big city".

They said they wanted a nice house with 5+ acres for horses or lake front within 45 minutes of the city. I would like to see the links that meet that requirement for < $250,000. Not 'close' to the lake or 'close' to horse stables.

There are plenty, go to realtor.com and put in Rockwall w/ a min. of 5 acres and waterfront and a max of $275K. There are TONS or properties in Rockwall and the area that are on the lake and/or allow horses. You need to get out more and stop being so negative. I realize you don't like Dallas or Texas and belittle it every chance you get but there are plenty of "nice" homes in the area for that price. They may not be "mansions" or such but they are "nice".

No doubt I can be wrong or used the wrong searches or sites but I do not find any 5+ acres or waterfront. I have specified those parameters but they are ignored and many properties not meeting the requirements are displayed...

Has nothing to do with my likes or dislikes, was just trying to be helpful.

I was under the impression the poster wanted a house to go with the 5 acres or lakefront but you can interpret it any way you want.

In my way of looking at the words you did not find what the person was looking for, but maybe you can sell 'close'. That is why I posted NO it was not available for the price they asked (under 225K).

Attack my posts all you want but I did nothing more than respond with an accurate answer.

If you come out to Houston, try out Pearland. Go to www.shadowcreekranch.net. It is a 30 minute commute to Downtown. Also, you could try areas of northeast Houston. Short commute times on US 59 makes this area popular for people who know it is there (it is overlooked by the Woodlands and Kingwood to the north and northwest Houston). Some neighborhoods in that area is Summerwood and Fall Creek.
