I recently heard that the oil business is booming in south Texas. I have a geologist friend who is looking to make a career change from nickel exploration (which he has been doing for the past ten years) into the petroleum business.

Which companies are doing the hiring down in Texas and what's the channel for applying for a job? Any useful and specific information is welcome.

A major oil boom is going on in Houston, Midland, DFW as well as Souh Texas. I am a headhunter after a career in that business. Most jobs look for someone with some oil and gas experience. Does your friend have that before the Nickel experience? That older experience will not get as much credit as current experience given the changes in the business especially in so called unconventional fields like South Texas.

I don't know, but if you msg me offline with your contact information, I'll put him in touch with you. He's a degreed geologist, he's been in the Artic Circle, Cuba, Guatemala, and South America for his work. He spent two years in Guatemala.

This thread is related to my husbands' situation and will be very useful to get comments/information/advise. I will be interested if others can comment to this situation. That is, a geologist in mineral exploration (gold, nickel) transferring his skills into the oil and gas industry. We will be moving to Houston soon.

I recently moved here to Odessa Texas to pursue a career in the oil industry. Johnhw2 do you also work up here in this area in Midland and Odessa? Do you happen to know of any headhunters here in this area? Thank you
