You might want to call DPS to be sure you get the right information.

Perhaps you can look here to see if you can find an answer Texas Department of Public Safety - Driver License Division (http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/driver_licensing_control/dlindex.htm - broken link)

Sorry, I should have thought of that rather than a phone call which seems so lame nowadays.

To get a hardship license at 15, you must show lots of documentation of why you need it. Like, you have to get to a job and your mom can't take you because she works X miles away. Or, you leave school at this time to take classes at the college for early graduation, and you can't get a ride from your mom because she's working...

You can't get a license early just to get a license. You have to show why you need it, what you plan on doing with it, and if you're caught in the car outside those hours, you're busted. So, if they allow you to drive to and from school, if you're caught in the car at 7pm with friends, you could possibly say bye-bye license.

I had a couple of friends get hardship licenses at 15, and they were scared to death to break any of the rules.

Sounds like it would be easier to just abide by the rules of your permit for another 6 months. That's not really that long of a wait.
