I agree McCain is wishy washy, but The Obamassiah is totally HOSTILE towards gun owners. He called owners "bitter people who clings to guns and religion". Get ready, Texas.

Again, don't get me wrong. I am NRA and pro-Second Amendment all the way, and have nothing but fear and loathing (and contempt) for the position of the Obamas and Pelosis and Feinsteins of the country. I am just saying a president cannot simply make a law banning/restricting guns. Now, if there is a congressional majority in favor of such, then conceivably it could be done.

But (at least for now), the Supreme Court has already ruled gun ownership to be an individual right (as opposed to a collective one). Further, there is just no real support even among many democrats to restrict this right any further than is already in place. That is to say, Democrats in the South and many parts of the West and Midwest know it would be a losing issue. Their constituents, especially in Texas/South would hand them their heads if they supported national restrictions. I would even go so far as to say the trend in the country at the moment is in favor of less, not more, gun control laws. Most people (at least those outside the NE and Left Coast) have seen what a flat failure it is (which common sense should have dictated to begin with) and how well private citizen carry laws have worked!

Ask Tom Foley what happens to anti-gunners.

OTOH, Obama can nibble around the edges like a tax on ammo, etc.

as far as I know, you have to be "travelling" to keep a gun in the car, unless you have a concealed handgun permit. just take the course.

I agree. And I would hope that the USA would not recognize ANY LAW that goes against our Constitution. That would be a sad day indeed.

The reason for the Second Amendment is to protect the citizens against any law that is against the Constitution.

It is noted that a President can take your guns away without congressional approval, by declaring a state of emergency/martial law. Anyone remember Katrina? That was the current Republican President.

Bushie did not declare martial law in NOLA. I loathe GWB some but will not assign him an untruthful charge! City and state agencies were the ones taking the guns both under the direction of Democrats at the time.

BTW, way back at the beginning of this thread it was written that taking a pistol across state lines would be illegal and thus must be "shipped" across state lines from one FFL (federal firearms licenseholder) to another FFL. This is not true if you are the owner and are not transferring ownership upon arrival.

I am not in any way licensed to distribute legl advice.

I am a firm believer in no paper firearms!

I think the Second Amendment is there to insure all the other Amendments. If one reads the intent(s) of those whose ideas went into our Bill of Rights in such writings as The Federalists Papers one will find that our Founders wanted the Federal Government weakened and thought that an armed population would help keep the Feds in check. This hasn't happened though. There was an attempt to weaken the Feds though from 1861 thru 1865 ... it failed!

Don't forget to also check New Mexico's state laws pertaining to guns in the vehicle, if you are traveling through that crap hole to get to Texas!
