Hi: Im doing my research for retirement, Im in my late 50's now, so I have to get going with this. I am gay, and although I don't spend my life dwelling on it, I know I have to consider it when I relocate at this point of my life. I need a warmer climate and a lower cost of living, no tax on my pension, I would like to work part time doing something, it certainly would not be in some career move occupation, but somewhere, where the entire work force was not so overwhelmed with students, that I would not find anything, I guess that would make austin a difficult choice. I would definitely need some type of a gay population and or liberal leaning people for friends and activities, so that I knew people in the community. Would appreciate any info anyone has. Thanks.

You are going to find liberal people, and gay people out of the closet, in any of the major cities. While you will definitely be in the minority, you won't be looked at as a freak. An extremely flamboyant gay man would probably find it hard anywhere in Texas, but just your run of the mill gay guy won't have many issues.

If you locate a Unitarian Universalist church congregation, you will find a very liberal community that often has a number of gay members/friends of the church. While you ultimately may not choose to join, you will find a liberal, tolerant, accepting community to socialize with.

Thanks everyone for all the replies. All good information. Yes I have heard Dallas has a large gay population, and alot of other necessities someone needs as they get older. Im not sure of the older gay makeup of that area, or if they all decide to pack up and head elsewhere, I would imagine Dallas like many cities would be a very young population. Thanks.

Do most of the older gay people, leave the Dallas area once they retire or do they stay?
