I remember hearing about this proposed highway a couple of years ago but I haven't heard anything about it recently. I doubt that it would be built anytime soon.

Ironically, it looks like the people of the area around Marfa and Alpine may come to regret the demise of La Entrada. Even though the project is dead as far as any improvements to the transportation infrastructure are concerned, that does not mean that the trucks will not come anyway. Now instead of traffic being carried by a specially designed freeway that could divert around towns and areas of natural beauty, the trucks from Mexico will simply use the existing roads. So you get all of the negative aspects with none of the positive. Nice job.

Sound great except for the fact that traffic will go through the 2 most dangerous states in Mexico (as far as I know).
Besides, why go through Big Bend and Chihuahua?
Mexico at this moment is fixing the road/highway that connect Mazatlan with North-East Mexico (Durango, Torreon, Monterrey).

Wouldn't the "La Entrada" Freeway have been considered the southern extension of interstate 27? It seems like that is what they are talking about in the article.

No, the I-27 extension is supposed to go through Big Spring on I-20, then head south through San Angelo and Sonora on I-10 before hitting Del Rio. The "La Entrada" project would go well to the west of I-27, going through the Alpine and Fort Stockton areas.
