I lived in Austin when I was a child, and Killeen as a teenager and young adult. I moved away with the military, which has since brought me back to Texas, this time San Antonio. I really enjoy what the San Antonio area has to offer, and we are going to make it our home when I seperate from the military. My vote goes to SA.

Austin with Lubbock a very close second. Anywhere in the Permian basin is a happy place for me.

I think you need to separate out those questions.
Live: Houston
Work: Houston
Play: Austin

I chose Fort Worth, but San Antonio is a close second.

As a Kentuckian looking in, I hope to move to one of the following three areas in the near future, in order of preference:
1. Houston (Inner Loop, west of I-45, a.k.a. just "the city".) I picked this choice.
2. Austin (near Downtown/University of Texas)
3. Fort Worth (near Downtown/TCU)

Dallas doesn't interest me, but I'm sure West End and Deep Ellum are cool neighborhoods. I've got mixed feelings about San Antonio; it's a beautiful city, but...

Some of the people from S.A., while within and outside of the city, have been either rude or cold/standoffish. I wouldn't put S.A. on a list of places I'm dying to see again.

Ironically, the friendliest people I've met from Texas are from (a) the Northern Hill Country/Waco area and (b) Houston.

Funny question that...

I've loved living in the Dallas area most, followed by my time in College Station...

If it was all about play, I'd be in Austin...

Work, well...work sucks no matter where it is, but my favorite job experience ever was also in Austin...

so...erm...I'm not sure I can really give you a good answer here...
