they were talking about Southerners being offended b/c Obama hasn't appointed any Southerners, and the guy was like while TX isn't Southern, the democrat former mayor of Dallas is on the short list. He said TX was southwest so it wouldn't do much to placate southerners.

I consider it southwestern anyways, only a small sliver in east texas (east of houston) is actually southern.

I can't speak for the ex-mayor (who lives in my neighborhood) but I would say of lot of African-Americans are more linked by The South than perhaps an Anglo from Texas (but many of us -Anglos- have southern ancestors - mine came from S. Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas and Alabama to Texas about 100-130 years ago.

Well, my ancestors came through the South, too, about that long ago and a bit longer, and some of them stopped temporarily in those states, but they didn't stop for good until they got to Texas. Others came down from Illinois. I agree, Texas is the Southwest, with a tiny sliver in East Texas being more like the South.

Yeah. The ole Texas is south or southwest or west or its own country.

Texans wanted to be southern but some Universities were part of the Southwest conference. So Texas quit the Southwest conference and joined the Big 12. Now it's just BIG.

So what? What's the point? Texas is south, Texas is west, Texas is central, Texas is BIG. So what? What's the point? Some former mayor flapping his pucker. He probly did that while he was in office. Some liked him, some didn't. He's out of office and Texas is still BIG, central, western and southern.

And CNN and experts is something of an oxymoron. Mostly morons.

Texas is different enough from the other states that it may defy categorization.

Texas is not southern or southwestern. Texas is a region in and of itself.

That guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Plain and simple.
