Yes.. if he is of school age, your school should have forms and everything you need to get him a Texas State ID card.

If not the Dept. of Motor Vehicles should be able to get him an ID card with the info you provide.

Hes 17 and he never attended school. Hes been home schooled but now he says he rather get his GED and since hes 17 he only needs parental consent I think.
He also wants to work but he needs his ID.

I take it he doesn't have a Texas driver's license. At 17, he should be able to get a Texas ID pretty easily. Check with the Department of Public Safety at 512-424-2000 and they should be able to answer your questions and tell you how to get the appropriate forms.

Talk to your local DPS, IIRC you need to bring the information you supplied them with the first time you got one. They'll give you a temporary ID (paper no pic) and mail you a replacement.

OP: Has your son enrolled in the GED prep classes yet? If not, just try to get a hold of the DPS and ask what to do. Your son will need a photo ID to take the GED test, and I believe enroll in prep classes. (I just took mine, but I forgot everything I had to do lol)

Be prepared for the photo ID to arrive by mail 2-3 weeks after you apply for it from the DPS - your son won't have it when he walks out the door.

If you want to obtain a Texas ID, then follow the directions as posted in the TxDPS website:

Quote:
To apply for your first Texas ID card, you must do the following:

Gather documents that verify your identity, U.S. citizenship or lawful presence status, and Texas residency.
Complete the application. (This form is also available at all driver license offices.)
Apply in person at any driver license office and bring the required documents and fees.

No, that is not enough. You have to prove both identity AND residency. Neither of those two documents show a current Texas address on them. You need to follow the instructions on the Texas DPS web site that a previous poster linked to. I went through all this a year ago for my daughter. The instructions are detailed and they will send you home if you are missing anything.
