My sister (20) and I (25) currently live in Chicago. This summer we want to permanently move to either Texas or Arizona. We've never been to Texas and we've only been to Arizona once when we were very young. We just can't stand the cold weather anymore and we figure the best time to try out new places is when you're young and unburdened.

So we're looking for firsthand thoughts, opinions, etc on each place. We're curious about the nightlife, about of things to do, cost of living, neighborhoods/apt complexes to live in, colleges, jobs, weather, scenery, transportation, etc. Anything that would facilitate our decision making and enable us to actually make an informed choice rather than go on a gut feeling.

Based on the limited info we found online thus far, we were thinking of perhaps Phoenix or Tempe in Arizona, or else San Antonio, Austin, or Dallas in Texas.

Thanks for your help!!

I'd say Tempe, or Austin.... I'd go with Tempe. Just my opinion, no reason really.

San Antonio is great. I'm from there (well right outside of it) and I love it. The actual city has a small town feel to the way things are (minus traffic lol) but is a city at the same time. Plus, you can't go wrong with the Riverwalk.

Do you want to be in a big city being from Chicago? It'd be nice to know.
San Antonio or Austin might be too slow of pace for you coming from Chicago. Even the Dallas/Ft.Worth Metroplex might be a little too slow for you too. Check out Houston if you want the closest thing to Chicago that Texas has to offer.

Arizona's beautiful. I love Phoenix but its less urban than Houston, Dallas, Austin, ot even San Antonio. Unfortunately in Arizona, i've only been to Phoenix and Flagstaff, and that was years ago. I'm sure things have changed since then so i don't have all the info on what AZ has to offer!

Yes, the closest you'll get to Chicago in this part of the country would be Houston, or Dallas.
