I am considering a move to the Lower Rio Grande Valley for employment. I have been down there before, but it was during the Summer so we didn't have to consider schools for the kids. This time, we plan to stay for at least one year, and we have a sixth and a seventh grader. I would like to hear opinions as to what you think are the best school districts in the area and why. I also need input on housing which may be difficult to obtain since we have three kids and three dogs and hope to take them all. I plan on renting at least for the first year. Any input would be appreciated!

You are going to have to specify. Lower Rio Grande Valley refers to the area between Rio Grande City and Brownsville. That's about an 80 mile stretch. If you are speaking of the Lower Valley (within the Lower Rio Grande Valley) you are referring to Brownsville, Harlingen, Raymondville and maybe La Feria.

Check out IDEA public schools. It is a charter district with the goal of sending 100% of graduating seniors to college. There are campuses throughout the valley, at varying stages (some have all grades, some have only a few). All of the schools strive to teach to International Baccalaureate standards. I used to teach at one of the schools, and I would send my kids there.
