I have ton of gay friends in Nacogdoches,TX which is in east texas and have never had problems with people getting snobby here.Tyler and Lufkin is a different story, both communities ares strict lol on seeing gays holding hands or kissing.Nacogdoches population is around 40,000 people with a major university and lots of sidewalks and the downtown sits in a valley coming from east or west routes you see beautiful views of downtown and apartments.NAC has over a 120 plus apartments complexs and is close to Houston.

Outskirts neighborhoods near Dallas with live and let live attitudes-now really almost IN Dallas-Greenville. But this is so much IN DFW that what is the point?

I noticed a lot of "gay growth" well not a lot but at least 2 gay owned (1 new) places in Galveston a year back.

San Marcos is a real mix of things with the college, artists, ( I know a S&M straight couple there), uber conservatives, mostly a "live and let live" attitude.

Outskirts of Austin, far east side or west.

Best of luck.
