I'm planning on moving to Texas in early January. I have not decided on a city and really don't know much about the area to make an informed decision. I've been looking online but Texas is such a big state I don't even know where to start. But here are some things I'm looking for

All of these cities have lakes not to far away, so at least you have water.

Tyler, except its not near the coast, but we've got plenty of large lakes. Beaumont might also be an option. Since you're from the East Coast, I would suggest staying in the East Texas area where there are lots of trees similar to what you're used to seeing.

I would suggest you visit for about a week before you make any decisions, yes, Tyler sounds like a good fit for you. I would also suggest you narrowing it down to about 3 or 4 cities and then apply for jobs. You certainly do not want to move without a job lined up, or I wouldn't think you would.

It might work, except that Beaumont feels like it has one Red Wing Boot in Texas and the other one in Louisiana.

Tyler, but you better have a job here before you move. Do you have experience as well as you degree? Tyler is largely medical but it is also the financial center and retail center of East Texas as well. Serving well over 300,000 population. Still, have that job.
