PS--we are hoping to do some of that same liberal thinking change to TX...
don't keep us stuck in that conservative mindset that has stagnated our thinking for the past 15 or so years...

Would suggest you also venture a little further south and check out Nacogdoches and Lufkin. Both are Certified Retirement Communities (State of Texas). Good medical facilities, each has a population of around 30,000 to 40,000 in the city; about double for the county. Beautiful countryside, top bass fishing, reasonable cost of living. General attitudes will match what you say you're seeking!

I am the original poster and we are returning home after spending a week in NE TX we found it very pretty and were impressed with the area. We stayed in Lindale and looked at property in different areas, but within a reasonable distance to Tyler. We found the conservative views more to our liking that where we are from. We will be returning in afew months for a more serious look. Thank you all for you postings

Be very careful what you wish for! Check out the liberal thinking states and see how that's working for them!
