Yeah, either that, or Hollytree, or the Cascades...those are pretty funny as well..lo..oh wait no they're not. Hold on to your hat but, they are actually affluent areas - IN EAST TEXAS no less..! *Gasp! Shock! Awe!*

I didn't grow up in East TX and have only lived here 8 months. It doesn't take a genious to find some nice "up-scale" neighborhoods here. If you want more bang for your buck than what you'd find in dear old Dallas, there are plenty of nice neighborhoods here. I like it here. No 45 minute parking lots on the freeways like in Dallas, yet you are only 2 hrs from Dallas when you need to do some major shopping. Only 50 min. from Shreveport.

We live in a beautiful neighborhood, Wildwood. It's a friendly, quiet neighborhood. Huntington Park, Thorntree (located off of 4th st)... and there is more, I just can't recall the names. Good luck with your search. I could give you the name of the realtor we used if you need one.

There are a lot of gated communities with houses 500K and up in Tyler. For my taste, they can tend to be a little "McMansion"-ish. Stonegate is where a lot of the higher end architects in the area do their showcase work, but it still feels a little planned out. My aesthetic is more toward the Azalea District. There are plenty of 500k+ houses, and it has a much more genuine neighborhood feel. Not to mention, if you'd rather not drop half a million on a house, there are also more affordable homes in the Azalea District...but the more expensive homes tend to be in the safer part of the area.

Bfam, I'm glad you have continued this thread, which really has little to do with Longview but Tyler instead. It just shows the number of people familiar with the "current" Tyler as having many uspscale areas equal to those in Highland Park of South Lake for that matter. But this is just for arguments sake, I really don't care alot about how upscale Tyler is, just want the truth "out there".

Oh, "Phillip T" I can tell by your response to me that I misjudged the meaning of what you said. I have met several people who have held on to the past as to the way a city/town was and would not accept changes that have occured to a city/town over time. I thought that was the case, but I believe you just weren't aware of the many upscale places in Tyler, so I was wrong in my response to you, my bad, sorry about that.

Everyone has a perspective of what's considered upscale...some like old historical lived in areas and some like new developing contemporary unique untouched by anyone other than the construction crew...some like city dwelling...some rural and some...somewhere on the contiuum with 'no extremes' ... Tyler is just like any other place...a 'City' waiting to be explored and made into what you make of it...its definitely perfect for some and certainly not the happy place for all...the geographics of Tyler or 'East Texas' is at 'No Fault'...just sitting there...flourishing for those who have chosen to call it home...just visit and choose...if you like it welcome...if you don't...thanks for visiting and good luck finding a place somewhere under our great skies around the earth that suits you!!!

Thanks for commenting on city-data, apparently for the first time. Maybe you will add a needed "fresh" input on the area. I enjoyed your first post. You received your first rep from me. How long have you been in the Tyler area? If not Tyler city limits proper. Where did you live before Tyler? Thanks !

Oh, you can tell I've been posting on C-D from the beginning or near beginning of C-D in 2007. Recently I've lost a little interest, it's more of a habit, rather than interest on staying on here, most leave after a few years, at most.

Count me in - no surprise here - as another person who loves the Tyler area. And it's a choice for us to live here. We could live literally anywhere we like because all we need is easy access to a decent airport for my husband's work.

Since he will be retiring in a few years, we take little trips to various cities to check them out a couple of times a year. We study the area, the demographics, the weather, the economy, and then we go look at real estate and experience the area for ourselves. Guess what - we always come back to Tyler. There are lots and lots of great parts of our country, and our state, but there's just no place we've found yet that matches what we love about Tyler. I mean, maybe a place is out there but right now it's looking like this is where we'll retire, and where we'll live out our days.
