I'm looking to get away from life in NY for a week this summer. I want to travel to Texas. I need help choosing a location. I'm not looking for any tourist attractions or big cities. I'm looking for a small town, where everbody knows eachother. A place where I can just relax, enjoy beautiful views and not deal with many toursits. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

There aren't too many towns listed on this site yet since it's a fairly new show, but take a look at Austin day tripper (they have a website).

Ummm...how do you like your summer heat? Hot and humid or hot and dry? Coming to Texas in the summer months implies either/or.

Go down to Concan, Texas to the Frio River. There are many nice cabins (some that are dumps and some are just downright over the top and more middle of the road). Enjoy tubing or kayaking on the Frio River (it is COLD year round), seeing the stars at night w/ no city lights to get in the way, local inhabitants (deer), Garner State Park, Lost Maples State Park and everything else around there.

The closest airport is in San Antonio so you would need to rent a car and then drive and that would be about an hour and a half drive.

Go down to Matagorda, Texas. There are a handful of condos to rent and then not much else. You'd have to fly into Houston and then drive a couple of hours. Bay City is the largest nearby town.

My vote is for one of the numerous B & B's up in the Texas Hill Country. Texas Hill Country area would be around Fredricksburg and Marble Falls. Those 2 cities would be the "touristy" area, but there are plenty of country B & B's off the beaten path in that area. Look around Llano and Lake Buchanan.

There are a lot of differences in the scenery and topography across Texas and it is a state that is too large to enjoy it all on one vacation.

Marfa or Alpine out in west Texas. Both are small towns with beautiful views!
