Have you seen the last election map? the ratio of Reps to Dem votes was basically 1.5:1.
Texas isnt an entirely Red state. All 6 major cities (Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth and El Paso) voted blue. The red is won in the suburbs and rural areas.

Whites are STILL the largest group in Texas. Whites makeup 47% Hispanics at 36% Blacks at 10% and Asians at around 4%

Even though the number is less than 50% they still have a majority in the state by over 11%.

At last census, that is.

Texas QuickFacts from the US Census Bureau
I think he's talking about the Minority-Majority thing. Texas is the only state East of New Mexico that has it's Majority population less than 50%. Basically, there's more minorities when you add them up. New Mexico, California, and Hawaii are the other states I believe.

Out in the rural areas, you'll find many Hispanics that are hard-core conservative. Back when the elections were going on, it was not uncommon to see bumper stickers that said "Hispanic conservatives for McCain".

I can't really speak for Hispanics, but while white Texans tend to be conservative republicans, blacks tend to be conservative democrats.

Most blacks vote democrat despite being against some issues like gay marriage, abortion, etc. Most blacks don't support the war or lower taxes for the rich.
