I bought house in a non deregulated area which is only serviced by Farmer's Electric Cooperative. The Coop is charging a lot than I used pay in deregulated area at my apartment. My first bill (2 months back) turned out be 15.2 cents per KWH, mainly due to huge base charge. My current bill turns out be 12.9 cent per KWH. This is still a whole lot higher than powertochoose.org low month-month of 9.4 cents! I would haved saved over $50 if I was actually in deregulated area!!! In fact there is 6 months fixed out there for 9.6 cents at powertochoose.org.

I was hearing regulated power (City or Coop) was cheaper than deregulated areas. So actually though I was good thing buying house in a coop area. However this turns out to be wrong for me! I definitely changed my mind on deregulated areas being more expensive. Seem like cooperative are expensive than private companies. I am also stuck with Coop Gas provider which more expensive then nearby private company provider.

People living just 1 mile just from me are the deregulated area (oncor) and can get those cheap 9.4 cents rates. Not sure why the heck Farmers electric Coop is charging much higher rate. Just wonder how high my bill will be for hottest month of July and August. Next time I will be sure to buy a house in a deregulated area!!!
