Because nobody wants to live there. Brown lawns, congested traffic, rude people, crime ridden, hot as hell in the summer, and Texas is pretty far from anything worth visiting.

My company wants me to move there but they couldnt pay me enough to put with Dallas, TX.

I don't know if you've ever been here, but our only detriment is our winters. They suck.
My point exactly. That is probably why you do not have the migration TX has. Aside from the winters SD & ND are very scenic (no joking here, just get off the interstates and explore a little) have some nice towns and friendly people. I still remember the waves hello from drivers as I drove east on US-10 east of Williston. I digress, this is a TX forum. I believe it's central location, pro-business climate, lower cost of living in urban areas compared with other large urban areas in the US and milder winters that draw so many to TX. I'm not good with macaroni economics (vs. micro-economics?) but having tons of open land and decent school & university system in addition to my reasons above is what makes it cheaper.

Yes winter sucks up north.

But for today and tomorrow we have mid 90s on tap for highs and upper 70s for lows at night in Dallas. Enjoy that heat

You must realize that California has very high temperature sometimes, but it just doesn't last forever like it does here. When my daughter was born in June many years ago, it was 113 degrees for a few days with MUCH cooler nights, but then the temperatures were in the 60s again and sweaters were needed. Palm Springs and the desert is another story from San Diego and L.A.

I'm faring really well this summer in the Texas heat, and I'm quite pleased as I've been getting lots of outside work done. I go outside at 6:30 a.m. and sometimes, I must come in at 9:30 a.m. because it's very hot but this morning, I actually was able to stay outside until 11:30 a.m. Then again in the evening, sometimes I just can't do it because it's awful but other days, 7:30 p.m. is great and I come back in when it starts getting dark.

I don't like weather to dictate when I want to do something, but if I lived in a state with a cold winter, that's definately a dictator for spending time outside. So very hot or very cold, we must work around Mother Nature and her schedule for us.

I'll take a hot day in TX over a cold day in Chicago anytime.

When things get into the upper 90s it might as well be -20 outside. It's unbearable outside no matter what.

By the way we had a high of 74 with partly sunny skies today. Enjoy that heat - it's still only June
