The idiot is the one who thought praying could make it rain.

The idiots are the ones who put 20 million people in a desert and then cut money for fire fighters.

This is bold talk from someone who thinks a redcard is something you see in a soccer match.

Hey, dude, Bastrop state park is mostly grass, cedars, and pines. Not sand.

That area has not been managed properly ( ie controlled burns ) since it was formed.

And the people who lost homes are mostly to blame for building a home that is not fire resistant and for not having a fire proof buffer zone around it.

Most of the efforts of the firefighters is now focused on creating those zones around those structures rather than actually fighting the fire.

I did a lot of fire training in the Bastrop area and know many of the firefighters. The Texas wildland fire fighting team is very well funded and very well led and mostly relies on teams from outside departments.

This unbelievable...and to think some idiot ridiculed Gov. Rick Perry for praying for rain!
Perry prayed for rain with one hand and cut the state firefighters budget with the other. Looks like the idiot is the one in office.

Default Rick Perry cut Fire Department funding by 75% this year.

In a year that already had record numbers of wildfires related to the drought, our governor and his toadies cut fire department funding by 75%. Thank you Rick Perry!

Under Gov. Rick Perry (R) this year, Texas slashed state funding for the volunteer fire departments that protect most of the state from wildfires like the ones that have recently destroyed more than 700 homes.
Volunteer departments that were already facing financial strain were slated to have their funding cut from $30 million to $7 million, according to KVUE.
The majority of Texas is protected by volunteer fire departments. There are 879 volunteer fire departments in Texas and only 114 paid fire departments. Another 187 departments are a combination of volunteer and paid.

Its amazing how many posts have the same words in them as if they were cut and pasted from a mass emailing.

In fact, I got the same talking point email this morning, too.

Won't be much longer until we can blame the drought, high fuel loads, and high fire weather on Perry.

Rick Perry cut the pay for up keeping volunteer firefighters equipment. Volunteer firefighters are not paid, hints the term volunteer. State Firefighters were not laid off and are well funded. You can hate the man or Conservatives but let's try and stick to facts.

Where did I say he cut their pay? Looks like you are the one making up facts here.

Pretty stupid thing to do during a major drought year that already had a record number of wildfires occuring.
