Yes, and now Ed McMahon is a memory of the past it seems. He just passed this Tuesday, but media has faded allready on his life.. Media ="who can we talk about on the air and get more ratings" so sad..

In another online place, I'm reading that people are upset that celebrity deaths have pushed discussion of the Iran election protests to the back burner. What's truly important news is a matter of perspective.

Michael Jackson was an international star. I doubt the average person outside the US would know who Ed McMahon or Farrah Fawcett are, especially if the person you ask is under 25.

Farrah Fawcett is definitely an icon (She was one of Charlie's Angels for god sake!). You'd be surprised how many people know her.

You could say she was the Marylin Monroe of the 70s and 80s

It's a shame that she's gone and she went through a terrible ordeal at the end, but keep her celebrity in perspective. She was only on that show for one of its 5 seasons, and that was 33 years ago. Her fame mainly centers on her photo on the biggest selling poster of all time, which sold 15 million copies, again about 33 years ago.

OTOH, Michael Jackson's biggest-selling album sold over 100 million copies worldwide, and it was just one of his many albums. He also had multiple number one hits in Germany, France, Norway, Canada and Australia. He sold out multiple concerts in Japan. That's an international star.

I guess the bigger the star, the crazier one becomes. He was certainly emotionally and mentally unstable. That cute little boy in 1968 who became a cute teenager and for some reason that makes no sense, he decided to become almost a freak, if you will.

Grant it; he was a good entertainer years ago, but as a person, he leaves a lot to be desired.

I certainly thought this was strange and I can't believe all the programs perempted tonight to cover his death.

Yes, he is an icon, no one can argue that, was I a fan? No, I was before his time, but to give all this attention to one entertainer is beyond my wildest imagination...

MJ and Farrah were huge icons of my generation, of course we're going to focus on them for a few days...then it will fade. Doesn't mean I don't care about what's happening in Iran. I do, very much. Don't know about Ed McMahon, but I bet there are men in their 40s and 50s across the world who remember Farrah.

Fox news tonight: Bill O'Reilly, at least; seemed to give equal coverage of them all. And even "So You think you can dance" (Nigel) mentioned all 3 of them. Of course, they started to play a mj video right before the commercial break. But he did mention meeting Farrah several months ago and she taught him how to make pecan pie.

Man, I have that image of Farrah forever burned into my memory of the famouse picture of her on the skate board with wind blown hair and glistening toothy smile and a slightly undersized top. "Gulp, whew its getting warm in here. Hey, where did you get that poster!" I bet every other teen boy from the 70's can indentify with that picture. What a dish, God rest her soul.
