in california (where i'm from) there's always been some kind of rivalry between southern cal and northern cal, los angeles vs. the bay area and the like. i was wondering if there were similar rivalries within texas as well.

Houston vs. Dallas
San Antonio vs. Austin

... maybe RGV vs. El Paso? Or El Paso vs. the rest of Texas (sometimes they don't consider themselves Texas)...

From the various people I talk to and various internet forums I get on it seems like the Houston vs. Dallas and San Antonio vs. Austin rivalries are the two biggest ones.

Honestly, city rivalries aren't that big of a deal here in Texas. I'm a native Houstonian & never hear city vs city chatter.

^^^ Lol! Houston vs Dallas is pretty big. I want to say Houston renamed "Dallas" street in downtown to something else just for that reason. Also Ft Worth generally hates Dallas.

Definitely a rivalry between Fort Worth and Dallas. For the most part it's a friendly one, but city officials and some other individuals really hate the other city (I know many Ft. Worthians who think people from Dallas are snobs, which is quite unfortunate!).

Love both cities, though.

i honestly don't see RGV vs. EP. if anything it might be RGV vs. Corpus Christi or Laredo. especially in hockey. el paso is way too far from the RGV.

and depending on who you ask, many people in el paso (including me) consider themselves more new mexican than texan (not everybody though). i remember they had a poll on one of the local news channels once about that. so if anything it would probably be:

El Paso vs. Las Cruces (the battle of I-10)

As an adult I lived twenty five years in Houston then ten years in Dallas and I've been over under around and thru both. NEVER heard anything about rivalry between the two. More like one doesn't even know the other exists.

They are two very completely apart, separate and distinct parts of the state.
