& I lived near Schwampkrugs (on Walnut near the HS).....it was a dumpy restaurant & the food was average & expensive (imo). Not surprised they went under.
The name of the place was Europa Fine Foods and Catering. Wolfgang Sliwa and his wife owned the place. Wolfgang grew up as an orphane in Germany and went on to become a chef and work at some of the finest restaurants in France and Germany. I wired his commercial kitchen there back around 1985-6. He died of cancer 2 years later. He was a cool guy and I still have one of his recipes for Chicken Cordon Bleu. The tel number back then was 512-625-1086. The address was 1162 Eikel St. New Braunfels, TX 78130

Yes - that's the place. Thank you!!
Too bad that there is no store similar to his with such high quality, authentic products.
"Famous" New Braunfels, but no one can cook or make German food...

There is a German place in Beeville, Texas that is owned by (I believe) a family from Germany. Maybe worth a try.

Oh, I see - the little city lists two places that sell German food. I will check on that when I return to States.
Gasthaus Berliner Bear
and German Family Restaurant
both have similar menu and good reviews.
Thank you for the tip!
