Tell her to run, not walk, run the other way. People are rude and very uneducated. There is no job outlook, housing is expensive, insurance is high and taxes are very high. There is no infrastructure, public transportation is a joke. You get the worst people of Mexico and the worst people of the United States of America living together. Most people live within the poverty line, and on top of that there is a "cheap" culture that will never be eradicated. Mediocrity is the norm.

There's an old joke we have up here. "What do you call an educated Valley native? A newer resident of Austin, Houston or Dallas."

I simply love Brownsville. Don't know what the complaints are. I am white and have found the Hispanics to be extremely respectful individuals, much more than most whites. If you are 55 or older, this is an especially great place to live with so much to do and low cost of living.

I especially like River Bend Resort--a fantastic community to live or visit.

A favorite place I've found to stay can be found here: www.vacationhomerentals.com/39198

Check it out and visit for yourself. Many of my friends return here to vacation over and over--#1!

Brownsville will always be the most beautiful city in Texas in my heart....
No other major city in Texas where you can grow coconut palms, cross the border in minutes, and have a beach only a half hour away. I hope some open minded people read my post.

Everywhere in life you can find peace and solitude or you can find a fist fool of rage. Its what you find depends on you, right? Most hostile places aren't nothing but flammatory expressions of hype, and disbelief. Find your own opinions by discovering for yourself. Then you can decide with an unbiased approach.

If she's sensible she'll be fine. There is a lot of gang and drug related trouble, but she'll steer clear of that no problem.
