What was the city thinking, this name will never catch on.

And as a geography fiend who's been reading maps since he was a little kid, I find the location of where Midtown Dallas is supposed to be to be quite inaccurate and annoying. Why can't it just stay "North Dallas" like it's been since I don't know when? That would be like suddenly referring to Buckhead as "Uptown Atlanta" or "Downtown Atlanta" - It'll never catch on.

I don't think Uptown Houston has even caught on; everyone I know refers to it as downtown or "where the Galleria at".

Haha, this is true. Depends on where in Uptown you're going to though. When we go to Uptown Park, it's Uptown Park, not The Galleria.

i don't see how it couldn't have caught on, seeing as how there are signs clearly pointing out where you are. i had always thought "uptown houston" was the official name and that "the galleria" was just the colloquial term

as far as comparing the two cities, dallas does have the west village, but there's just SO much more to uptown and midtown houston. so i really can't understand how dallas is winning this poll

Most people just call it "The Galleria Area".

Nice photos thanks

well trust me, it's a lot better for houston's image for "uptown" to catch on. it makes it sound more like a destination. having an entire urban area named after a mall isn't a good look.

It will. People do say Uptown (the news, etc.). I think once the light rail line opens up, it'll help a little more.
