it may not have been a major destination for evacuees like houston or atlanta, but there were definitely more than just a few new orleanians in killeen after katrina. trust me

and those new orleanians were causing the crime rate to increase in Killeen?? Because even when the most were in Houston and people were blowing things out of the water w/ N.O. and the increasing crime rate it was never any actual stats proving that residents from N.O. were doing a ****load of crimes

How is San Antonio and surrounding area. I am considering relocating there. How are the schools and diversity there. Is the real estate market good and what is the crime like.

Why are you asking about San Antonio in a thread about Killeen?

As with many states and cities withing the states, Killeen, Texas has its ups and downs. Criminality, gangs, etc, etc. is not different than from California, Michigan, Chicago, New York, to name a few. Its all about the area within Killeen, Tx you decide to reside in. The city has grown and and expanded. Yes, there is a military post but not all the problems are due to the military community or the people in Killeen. Most of the problems with gangs, criminal acts are inherited as people relocated to this location. Nothing different from any other city with a post close by or where those evatign the law moved into. As with other cities, Killeen has many things to offer. It could be better but for that to happen, a major change in local official must take place. Don't get discourage about the city of Killeen. Whatever place you decide to move to, will be what you make out of it. Research the many communities within Killeen and if they do not appeal to you, then research the cities closed by, Copperas Cove, Temple, Belton... Killeen is located in the center of Texas, which it makes it easier to explore the many other cities within this big state.

I have lived in Killeen for many years, and to be honest...I dont think it is that bad. Every city has its good and bad people and I find Killeen no different...But to be honest, you would like Harker Heights better, becuase its more "nicer" that Killeen...but Killeen is not bad. If I would have stayed for High School, I would have wanted to go to Harker Heights.

Killeen is nice in some parts. There really aren't gangs in the schools and it isn't as bad as people try to pretend it is. It's close to all the major cities of TX, full of minorities and very inclusive. Copperas Cove is 'ghetto', Harker Heights is the uppity area.
Lived here a long time and hate when people try to act like this place isn't great, because living here is nice.
