Hello Houstonians
I've been looking to relocate to a bigger city, Houston seems to attract me on the low cost of living in comparison to the diversity of attractions and culture. I'm a RN, might be getting a job in Methodist Hospital Willowbrook early next year. Can I get some opinions on safe neighborhoods that is within 15 mins drive. I hope to buy my own place too. Is Willowbrook a good area? I looked at new homes listing, KB Homes has some decent $$ houses at 11714 Newell Elm Street, Houston, TX 77038. I wonder if that is a safe area? It seems that Jersey Village is another option. I'm a single lady, mid 40+, don't ever hold a gun in my life, and safety is my priority. I appreciate some advise from the local folks in Houston, thanks.

If you will be working in Willowbrook, try looking toward Tomball. It is a short drive and Tomball has many nice, new developments.

Also, stay away from KB Homes. All you have to do is google it and see the massive problems people have with those houses.

Willowbrook/1960 used to be a nice area, crime has gone up in the area though the past several years. I would look into Tomball, Copperfield, or Cypress if buying a home.

KB Homes is your worse nightmare.

Default How do you rank the new home Builders?

Thanks a million for your reply. I'd look into Tomball, Copperfield and Cypress. Also appreciate the sounding board regarding KB Homes. I was attracted to their relatively cheap $$. It seems that there are many home builders e.i. Lennar, MHI, Brighton, Beazar, Pulte, Centex, Perry Home. Does anyone have any opinion on which builder is more reliable of the lot?

KB Homes used to be called Rayco, then it was known as Ray Ellison. He built the Glen subdivision in San Antonio (Windcrest) and several houses on the South west and West side of San Antonio. I agree with the other posters about KB Homes. They make D.R. Horton look like angels. KB Homes is like the Doyle Stuckey homes in Wellington Park (Alief, Tx)
Newbrook, Cook Rd/Beechnut. There is a reason why KB Homes are cheap per square foot. Studs are made with Particle Board instead of real wood. Think of those Yellowwood commercials on tv versus non Yellowwood, KB is not Yellowwood that's for sure!!!!

Are you sure you are not talking about Greenspoint? When I worked in Williowbrook Mall (2000) it was a very nice area. My Grandfather was in the Assisted Living out there in 2004.

What's changed?

Urban decay happened, which is to be expected when you develop a place as strip mall sprawl.

Cypress is a very nice area. It has had a tremendous amount of growth. The only negative I think is that traffic coming in to Houston on 290 is a nightmare during rush hour. But, in Houston, traffic is a nightmare everywhere during rush hour.
