As of the time of this posting 5 candidates are running:

Rick Perry (R) - Perry, a West Texas native, is the incumbent in the race. He graduated Texas A&M University and served four years as a Captain in the United States Air Force. Boone Pickens, and Hayley Barbour (Governor of Mississippi).

Kay Bailey Hutchison
(R) - Hutchison, a native of the Houston metro, has served as a United States Senator since 1993. She graduated from the University of Texas and served in the Texas House of Representatives. She served on the National Transportation Safety Board and has also worked as a bank executive, attorney, and journalist. Major issues Kay wishes to tackle include lowering the high school drop out rate and fixing the broken TXDOT finance system. Her endorsements include Dick Armey, Dick Cheney, and several members of the US House of Representatives.

Debra Medina (R) - Medina, a South Texas native, is a registered nurse that graduated from what is now the Baptist Medical Center in downtown San Antonio. She later received her degree from Le Tourneau University in Longview. She promotes limited government and individual liberty. She has received endorsements from Ron Paul and US Border Watch.

Bill White (D) - White, a San Antonio native, has served as Mayor of Houston since 2004. He graduated from Harvard University and the University of Texas. He worked as a lawyer before being appointed US Deputy Secretary of Energy under Clinton. He served as chairman of the Texas Democratic Party and worked as an administrator for an energy company before being elected. He helped Houston become one of the fastest growing cities and has even gained support from some Republicans for lowering property taxes while in office. His endorsements include John Cook (Mayor of El Paso), Lee Leffingwell (Mayor of Austin), and numerous state representatives.

Farouk Shami (D) - Shami, a native of West Bank, has lived as a businessman in Texas. His company manufactures the CHI and BioSilk haircare products. He has opened factories in Houston and plans others across the state. His top issues include new job creation and health care reform.

Same here. Rick Perry needs to hit the road. I've never like that man from day one.

If KBH wins, I surely hopes she learns how to pronounce Massachusetts. The "chu" is just that ... CHOO, not "TOO" ... so embarrassing. That drives me nuts, kind of like the person who says "Illi-NOISE. Hello, it's Illi-NOY. If someone is a politician, he or she should at least know how to pronounce correctly the names of our states. Nevada, Hawaii, Missouri, Colorado, and Louisiana are also butchered by those who don't know.

What dealings does Texas politics have with Massachusetts in the first place?

Just curious...

Keep in mind candidates must only receive a plurality of votes and not necessarily a majority. For example Rick Perry won election in 2006 with only 39% of the vote.

I'm strongly considering giving up my Independent card to vote for KBH in the primary, and I'll probably vote for Bill White (the presumptive Democrat) in the general election.

Kay Bailey irked me by flip-flopping on toll roads. When she was in DC she was against them, now she's for them.
