My family will be taking a trip from OKC to San Antonio in about mid July. I am looking for any recommendations for attractions to stop at along the way between Dallas and SA..

Not so much food wise, but stuff to look at....

Thank you..

Eat at the czech stop in west texas (kolaches)

Outlet mall in hillsboro, but much smaller than san marcos

Dr pepper museum waco, tx

Inner space caverns, which is in georgetown are cool. And in july they are a great way to beat the heat

More outlets in round rock

eat at gumbos in round rock or in downtown austin (cajun)

Dell corporate headquarters in round rock

As you pass through san marcos, there is a huge outlet mall and tubing at aquarena springs

In new braunfels there is a nice water park (schlitterbahn)

There

Avoid I-35 and instead take US 281 south...head west of Fort Worth on I-20 towards Mineral Wells and take the 281 exit south away from Mineral Wells. You'll travel through Stephenville, Hico (Billy the Kid Museum here), Hamilton and on down towards the Texas Hill Country around Lampasas, Burnet, Marble Falls, Johnson City, Blanco and into far north suburban San Antonio. You'll be surrounded by beautiful topography, quaint little towns, antique stores and the Lyndon B Johnson National Historic Park where the LBJ Ranch is, in Johnson City. Traffic isn't near as bad as I-35 can be and you can actually get off the beaten track and see some of Texas that many don't ever see.

I second your recommendation. I suggest Cooper's bar BQ in Llano for lunch. The pork chops are not to be missed.

This place has been there for ages, started off as a trailer and now it appears to have expanded, not sure the ages of your kids but it is right off the highway on the frontage road in New Braunfels

Texas Snake Farm, Petting Zoo, Exotic Animal Park

Also, a nice little diversion also in the area is Gruene Texas, you could stop for lunch, stretch your legs a little, San Antonio is about an hour south http://www.gruenetexas.com/
