Besides measurable things like job market, which of the large metros in Texas would you recommend?

Politically I’m independent, moderate-to-conservative. I like some sort of vitality in a city’s core. I’m not mad about ethnic segregation. I’m more formal than hip. I like women who make a minimum effort to look good, but I don’t like superficiality. I like politeness, but not passive-aggressiveness. I love sports. Scenery, easy-to-reach outdoors and some nearby body of water are plusses.

Thanks.

Hmm... well, I'd probably say Houston. Independent to moderate, not superficial but not dowdy either, pro sports, a decent core (most places of interest are inside Loop 610 at least.)
Not much scenery by most peoples' standards unless you're living right on the water, but does have easy access to the outdoors and several bodies of water.

Thanks, I've heard good things about Forth Worth. I'll look into Houston too.

Houston also has its piney woods & tropical foliage if you can consider that scenery.

#1 San Antonio-- a very best in the US: low cost of living--everything a city can offer #2 Fort Worth

The OP wants formality as well as sports. Both are areas which SA gets shot down badly.

Austin is too hip (or wannabe) to be formal.

Fort Worth (West Arlington really) has the Dallas Cowboys, yet is too casual to be formal.

Dallas is too superficial.

Houston has all of the sports, is both a hip city & can be formal (depending on which part of the city you're in), yet down to earth at the same time.

Hogwash about Fort Worth. Fort Worth is not too casual to be formal. Fort Worth is very easily both.

At first I was going to say Houston 1st, then Austin but after reading a few posts I think I'll say Houston or Fort Worth. They would be closest to your description (I also lived in Houston, so have the personal experience too).

If you consider western attire to be formal then I guess it could be...
