Please visit Dallas first and go see for yourself and quit repeating what you hear....

Please, a few blocks of one street does not a downtown make. Main Street in Dallas is like a fatter (not phatter) old fogey, worse-dressed version of the 6th Street entertainment district section of Austin, with mostly canned music instead of granted, often rather bad live music. Downtown Austin is pretty lame, just not quite as lame as downtown Dallas for bars, restaurants and music.

Yes, there's still more work to be done there, but I say they've made significant progress ever since the opening of Minute Maid Park.

Yep. Forgot the Houston Pavilions. I agree. Downtown Houston has a lot to do.

Houston downtown is making progress and is definitely getting better. It is quickly catching up w/ San Antonio and Ft. Worth. I'm not including Austin because i think Austin's downtown is overhyped. It didn't impress me at all.

Seriously? Do we really need to belittle other cities' downtowns? We all have different taste, incomes, fall into different age groups, etc. so the most vibrant downtown is going to very from person to person.

For me, it would be Austin or San Antonio. Yes, you have some stuff in downtown Houston, but you have to have quite a bit of money to enjoy much of it. I would presume Dallas is the same way. Sense I can't afford to drop a couple of hundred dollars a night on restaurant, bars, and clubs, I would much more prefer SA or Austin so I can be around people closer to my age group and with similar music taste. I didn't really know how great of a downtown Fort Worth had until I took history of modern architecture class. The city has a caviler of museums that I don't think SA or Austin will ever have, and that combined with the Stock Yards (which I've heard are suppose to be pretty cool), I can see why people chose Fort Worth as the most vibrant downtown.

I agree wit everyone about ft.worth's Downtown. Its very busy and interactive. However I did notice that the size of DTFtW causes it to kinda feel like u are in the Ft.Worth section of Six Flags if they had one. It almost feel like a staged replica of a vibrant downtown with all the interactive parts(like NewYork NewYork in Vegas). But it is very interesting!

There's plenty of low cost things to do in downtown Houston for the younger (20s and 30s) crowd. I don't know why I've heard people on some of these boards slam nightlife on Main Street. It may not be as hype as it was 5-6 years ago, but it still has a pretty busy crowd for the most part during the warmer months. Add that with the new House of Blues and the Lucky Strike Bowling Alley. I'm not going to mention sporting events

Discovery Green always trys to have events such as live music, outdoor movies on the lawn, festivals, and Outdoor Ice Skating in the winter.

I'm not sure what you speak of when you say you have to have alot of $200/night to enjoy downtown Houston. There are people of all ages now attending downtown in many different circles. Sounds like you need to get out more.
