The Democrats may have one elections in Houston or Dallas just because the Republicans have been idiots for about the last 8 years.

I would say Dallas since Farmers Branch passed the ordinance. A similar copycat attempt around the same time in Friendswood was squashed. It involved two tree-trimmers for the city who spoke only Spanish. The man who was trying to talk to them was disgusted and complained to City Hall and wanted to pass an ordinance making English the official language in Friendswood. Instead of passing the ordinance, the city decided to put its non-English speaking workers in English classes.

The current mayor of Houston is a Dem who was a mid-level or low-level member of Clintons Cabinet, he's pro-choice, and is an active proponent of gay rights and has marched in the annual Gay Pride Parade in Houston. BTW, the mayor is married with kids so is apparently straight, but of course you never know ?
Anyway, could anybody with that political profile be elected mayor of the city of Dallas ?

He is just supporting the gays. It is almost like white people walking with MLK, though that is a much bigger event.

Anyway, one of the people running for Dallas mayor IS openly gay. I wonder if he will win.

Not only is one of the two candidates in a runoff election for mayor of Dallas openly gay but Dallas County last year elected a lesbian County Sheriff. I'd say they are accepted. The guy running for mayor IS in a run-off so to make it that far even if he does not get elected it is not like he got runoff at the polls by people not wanting him.

Laura Miller, the current Dallas mayor has also marched in Dallas' gay parade. So the answer is yes.

I don't know if Laura Miller is pro choice, but since she's not one of nine US Supreme Court justices, it doesn't really matter.

Oh, the Mayor of Dallas is a female and Jewish. Neither of which were issues in her election (nor should they be).

Laura Miller is also a Democrat (her husband served many years in the Texas Legislature as a Democrat).

Ive lived in Houston and DFW, I have to say people are more conservative in dallas. But I imagine when dallas becomes bigger than houston its going to be a close tie.
