To the OP-- I thin for a northern mid-western large Catholic minority family, Texas might be quite the adjustment. You will have many, many days in a row of over 85 degree heat. From my experience, you shouldn't have any problems homeschooling in Texas as it's not discouraged by state law as it is in NY. Keep in mind it will be a large cultural adjustment... There are trade-offs as with every move and only you can decide if its worth it...

Funny... my criteria for determining that it is now hot is if the temperature remains AT LEAST in the 80's OVERNIGHT for an extended period of time... like more than ten days.
