and DR Horton has suffered a loss in profits. Will this affect the cost to build in Texas? If not, what affect do you think it will have, if any...or what do you think this is saying...reading between the lines?

Of those two builders, no effect at all. Their products are not the most sought after even when they have built on a few lots in highly desireable areas (I went thru one DR Horton home listed the other day in a VERY nice area and the outside looked GREAT but inside was another story. The plumbing and lighting fixtures were outdated when this home was built not too many years ago. The floorplan was HORID! The popcorn ceilings do not add any value but instead detract) GREAT neighborhood but bad house . These two were once one of the few more modest builders in the North Texas region and great for first time homebuyers. Over the years their products have changed and not for the better. Other builders have come into the market to fill their shoes. When once upon a time they were building in 30+ communities across the metroplex (1980's) that number has shrunk. I don't see this hurting the economy in the area in a negative way. If those losing their jobs are quality then they will find a job no problem.

Thanks. I was seeing it as a problem with the housing industry as a whole due to the downturn. I thought Pulte was a pretty good builder. If you had to choose a custom builder to build your home, who would you choose and why?
