Funny story I heard while I was working in Galveston....The statue on Broadway you took a picture of (near the end, pic 121) has two figures that point in the same general direction (I think it is sort of NW). I was told that the sailors were told to follow their directions to the red-light district
.

LOL as a kid we were told that the statue led the way to "red Light" district as well. (of course at 9 I didn't know what that ment and was always looking forthe redlights!!!)
Beautiful pictures...thx it's been soooo long since I've been down there. The city looks good. (we lost our house on sea isle beach to hurricane Alicia)
AHHH the brown sand of Galveston!!! (but we used to find sooo many and dollars washed up so it has has it's nice qualities!!)

When I lived in Clear Lake, I had a friend that rented an apartment with some other people and it was in a building that had been a brothel. When we first went to visit, they enjoyed pointing out that the rooms all had numbers above them and two of them actually had names. It was a neat bit of history.

I'm glad we're revisiting this thread. I noticed in some of the pics that Galveston has a few new high-rises near Seawall and Broadway. Wow! They were just starting construction on those the last time I was in Galveston last year. What a difference a year makes!
