Municipalities (arbitrary, meaningless):

1. Houston
2. San Antonio
3. Dallas
4. Austin

Cities:

1. Dallas
2. Houston
3. San Antonio
4. Austin

Some disagree but most urbanologists put Fort Worth in with Dallas. It looks a general consensus.

Every here knows the difference between cities and metro areas, but you should actually list Fort Worth next to Dallas.

And this means?

Is this just some fantasy you cooked up? A city is defined by it's political boundaries. It's not rocket science. A "municipality" is just a broad term used to define a localized government and infrastructure within a city or town, that really has nothing to do with population... so I'm not sure exactly what it is you're trying to prove with your post here.

Dallas and Fort Worth are two separate cities whose city limits don't even touch. Does this really need to be explained?

Fort Worth hates being categorized under "Dallas". They should always be named in whatever title includes them.

If this is the case then Ft.Worth shouldn't be mad because it wasn't mentioned

Yes, it was at the end of his post. Dallas-Fort Worth is larger than Houston. Dallas alone is not.

Well yeah. That's because Fort Worth isn't Dallas, nor is it some suburb of Dallas either. It's very much it's own city, with it's own core, it's own economy, it's own rich history that goes back just as far as Dallas, it's own "hub and spoke" freeway network (shares a couple of freeways with Dallas by default), it's own skyline, it's own network of commuters, it's own suburbs (shares a few with Dallas once again by proximity and default), and above all, it's own distinct character and identity.

Sure, they share an MSA, an airport, and a few professional sports teams... but Dallas and FW are still two distinctly separate cities. Lumping them together as a single entity whenever it's convenient is just laughable and wrong.

Yes, DFW is the biggest MSA in the state. San Antonio is the #3 MSA. That still doesn't change the fact that SA is the #2 city, and Dallas is #3. Oh well. If people don't like that, then they should take it up with the U.S. Census Bureau.

Personally, I think some of you people just place WAY too much importance on size and numbers (not aiming that at you, Mega).

Uhh... No they most certainly do not. That is both false and utterly ridiculous. They are two principle cities within a single MSA (which itself used to be two separate MSAs and could be again depending on the inclinations of the OMB which determines it on behalf of the U.S. Census, BLS, etc. and has previously split MSAs in two as with Raleigh and Durham). They are also each designated as Metropolitan Divisions - something that does not get a lot of attention because there simply are not many MSAs that are further broken down into Metropolitan Divisions. Imagine if there was no District of Columbia and Washington was included in the boundaries of Maryland; you would likely have the same situation with Washington and Baltimore being wrapped into a single MSA with Metropolitan Divisions as what you have with Fort Worth and Dallas (same distances between cities apply) and I can tell you that no one would attempt to claim that Washington was really just a part of Baltimore (also, both of those cities are smaller than Fort Worth, so there's that).

The only people who try to suggest Fort Worth as being Dallas or the metro as a whole as being "basically Dallas" are imbeciles, the ignorant who have no idea what they are talking about, Dallas boosters who delight in and benefit from the perpetuation of the misnomer and the latest obscure website trying to drive traffic to its website by making a top ten list of cities with the best haircuts and carelessly (or ignorantly label) the metro as "Dallas."

So no, the only consensus to be found here is that you have no idea what you're talking about and/or are simply trolling.
