Can somebody tell me how is the tap water in Levelland? I am in east Texas in Jacksonville and here it's good I know that in west it can be bad. I was in Odessa in hotel and the water was Horrible ( don't know if it was because of what it just is there or the hotel)
Then how would Levelland area be for a cyclist (road) ? How are the roads? Smooth, or bumpy and crappy? Any hills, trees, curves? It seems to be windy

thanks

I can't remember if Levelland's water is well water or from Lake Meredith. If it's from wells, then it should be great; if it's from Meredith, it doesn't taste very good, but it's clean (I live in Lubbock and use it for everything and filter it for drinking). The roads are well-kept, and there are no hills, few trees, and few curves. There is a fairly major triathlon at Buffalo Springs Lake outside of Lubbock every year, though you might not be into the other parts of the event.

The Levelland city website states there water comes from the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority, and Lake Meridith is on the Canadian River. Draw your own conclusions.

As a cyclist who has been to Levelland many times (though NOT to bike), I can safely say that the enjoyment level of cycling in the area would be about a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10. The only pro is that you will often get a strong tail wind (IF you are heading the right direction). Then of course you have to turn around and come back....

ok thanks. Yea I drink tap water all the time here but if you ask somebody else it would be "nasty" so I guess the water there would be ok for me.

I hate to hear it sucks for cycling. I know the Buffalo Springs triathlon but never done it and they say that the cycling is very hard and hilly there. So if you go ride around there there are some hills.

Can anybody tell how far are the closest hilly areas or climbs any direction from Levelland?

Well, you realize they call it "Level land" for a reason, don't you?

Relatively speaking, the Buffalo Springs Lake /Ransom Canyon area is sorta hilly. But the total elevation drop/gain is only about 150 feet out there. If you are looking for real hills you will have to go east and ride up and down the edge of the caprock, or go west to the foothills of the Rockies in New Mexico.

I went to college with girl who was from Levelland--can't forget because of her west texas twang--
she had mottled teeth which came from drinking the water in her area she said

of course that was in the late 60s and water quality has changed since then I guess
but I always wondered if that was a common perdicament for people living in that area--seeing people in restaurants eating or notice them talking and see a whole town of people with that look...

My guess would be that she was trying to cover up for bad dental hygiene earlier in her life. I honestly can't think of anyone with mottled teeth.
