There are 3 other major metropolises in Texas (each with its own gifts), but it seems that on this forum, they are always inquiring about Austin? why is that?

Because Austin is Texas for Texans who hate Texas. In other words, cuz it's so damned liberal.

Exactly!!!
The Californians are also used to a high cost of living/housing, which Austin has.

I lived in austin back in the 80s and didn't really find it "liberal" except for certain pockets of the inner city. There were a lot of aging hippies back then and there was always '60 music playing on the radio. they must be in nursing homes by now. many of the 'landmarks' that were there back then have been torn down to make room for "progress". Austin just doesn't seem that liberal to me, if it ever truly was.

Question Maybe because...

Just read an article today in the travel section of our paper. It said that the motto of Austin is "Keep Austin Weird". Maybe the Californians are comfortable with that?

Being a Calif. Conservative who is living in Austin. I find it easier to befriend a Austin Liberal than a self righteous Calif. Liberal who seems to think Austin is not liberal enough for them. As for me it is the size of the city and location within the state that brought us here. We have family that are scattered throughout Texas and we are able to visit them easily.
