Well I can give you feedback...
1. LaSalle - is renovated old building downtown (that used to be the LaSalles dept. store many years ago) toledo, I believe they are loft type apts. kinda cool looking but still are downtown where they are renovating old warehouses etc..and I would not live downtown, but thats me.
2. Miracle Manor - is west toledo older apts and probably not great area
3.Hunters Ridge are older, not so great area, pretty setting.- they are run down.
4. Cloisters...YES!! they are located right off I475/23 at Airport Hwy exit off holland-sylvania ave. It is a good area, although probably 20 minutes ride to UT, but worth it.
I agree with another persons comments...anything close to UT will not be good area, sad but true.

I have couple suggestions for you:
stay away from anything "Oak Hill" related.
"The Kings Cove" on 2560 Key st. near heatherdowns, is a nice quiet place with actual laundry facility with tv room bunch of washers/dryers..like a real laundromat! very cool and convenient for apt living They are 1 and 2 bedrooms and they do have few townhome units - a friend of mine lived there and liked it a lot. 419-381-1645
It is located on the edge of maumee but toledo address...Maumee area would be good place to check as well,

I've actually lived in the building for about 2 years now.

Here's the deal:

If you want to feel like you live in a REAL city, this is a close as it gets. It's a historic building that used to be a Macy's and was converted around 1999/2000.

It's got high (13-15") ceilings, huge 8"x4" windows, a rooftop patio (it's a 10 story building), underground parking, etc. The units are open floorplan, 15 to a floor.

The makeup is college students, young professionals like myself, and some older couples (empty nesters). Funny enough, I do know a couple Med Students in the building already.

Downtown is 15 minutes from EVERYWHERE, so it's really pretty convienent.
It IS downtown, which means that no, there are no Supermarkets nearby (But there is a market IN THE BUILDING that actually happens to deliver groceries). The building is right in the middle of the Biz District. There is CERTAINLY not a crime problem. During the summer you get some beggers on the streets but they're harmless. It's NOTHING like a real inner-city residential neighborhood.

The trade off, though, is that you're in walking distance to about a dozen of Toledo's best night spots, there are real options for take-out delivery (not just Pizza like you'll get in most the city), you can walk over to the baseball stadium for a game, or, soon enough, to the arena they're building downtown for concerts, hockey games, etc.

The building IS a bit more expensive than "regular" apartments, but it's a no-brainer if you can afford it.

Check them out. Walk thru them. There are 15 different floor plans on each floor and the floor plan makes a big difference.
Agreed 100%, I love the inside of this place.

I went to med school at UT, and I can tell you that the biggest concentration of people (students and residents) live around the Heatherdowns/Reynolds Rd area. One consideration is what specialty he will be going into. If he is going into a specialty that requires frequent trips to St V's (surgery, medicine, Ob/Gyn) then you may want to consider some areas up on Holland-Sylvania. That being said, at the hours he will be going into work you will be able to get to St V's from Heatherdown in 15-20 minutes easily. Another interesting area is the Central/Secor area. There is a lot of shopping nearby with the mall, Whole Foods, costco, and tons of other big boxes around. You would be ~10 minutes from St V's and UTMC and 5 minutes from Toledo Hospital if he'll be rotating through there (peds, ob/gyn). My wife live in that area for a while and she liked it over there.

I wouldn't live in the area right around UTMC for two reasons. The first reason is that the area is a little shady....not dangerous, but shady. The second reason is that, as a resident now, I do NOT want to be in the vicinity of the hospital when I'm off work. I spend enough of my life in the hospital as it is, and when i'm off, I'm off and do not want to be reminded of the hospital. You can literally see the hospital from most of the adjacent apartments.

Just curious, what is he going into?

I am considering moving to Toledo from Chicago for a new job opportunity. Thought I would just add on to this thread instead of starting a new one.

I am 26, male, single and wanting to live in a nice area that is within 20 minutes driving distance to Franklin Park. Are all areas mentioned in this thread the same areas I should focus on?

My main concerns are:
1) safety
2) living in an area with people similar to myself in age
3) neighborhood bars, restaurants, things to do close by

Coming from Chicago, I realize that might be asking for a lot. Thanks for any input.

I will reiterate what I said previously, do not live in the city. Find something in a suburb; Springfield Twp., Maumee, Perrysburg, Sylvania, Whitehouse. Toledo has a city tax and if you do not work in the city, many of the suburbs do not. The prior apartments that have been mentioned are in high crime areas and have many down on your luck residents. You can live in any suburb and make it to Westfield in 20 minutes. I have lived in this city my entire life; worked in the police dept. and know firsthand, plus also sold real estate. One of the nicest apartment complexes is Chelsea Arms, in Sylvania. High class surrounding neighborhood, walking distance to two of the most popular bars.

Thanks for the response. What are the bars names?

Do most young professionals live in apartment complexes as opposed to 2 or 3-flats or single family homes?
