I'm a former Lambertville resident now living in Texas and I do my part by reading and posting occasionally on the Toledo forum. I like to read it to keep tabs on the area and having a Toledo forum in its own area makes it easier for me. I was back in Lambertville/Toledo area over the Christmas holiday and stopped in at Rumors on Monroe Street. Man I love the food and the portion sizes they server there. Its one of my must visit places for food when I return. The other is Village Pizzeria in Temperance!!! Man I'm hungry. Not much good pizza that I've found yet here in North Texas.

My thoughts...

1/2 the problem is the forum is too new and not enough people know it's around yet.

The other 1/2 is that the people who visit the board don't start any (or enough) new posts - especially on specific topics. There needs to be a steady stream of new topics and ideas to keep people interested.

There are like three old threads discussing the pros and cons of the area at large, but not many talking about recent events or the minutia of the city itself.

The few people who actually visit the board (so far) need to be more active in getting the ball rolling.

I said early in the discussion about the forum that it should be a Toledo / NW Ohio forum. While the area around Toledo has differences from the actual urban area, if the forum were actually promoted as a place to discuss Bowling Green, Napoleon, Bryan, Defiance, Findlay, Wauseon, and even Pioneer, Edon, Lake Seneca, etc. there might be more activity. I admit that I don't follow the posts as much as I might because the topics seem to be Toledo specific and I am an hour away. I know I could start some threads, but I prefer to add input to other threads. They seem to get my brain going better.

What a shame that no-one is interested in keeping the Toledo forum alive. (sorry guys but one line of agreement doesn't cut it) I'll be moving to Toledo in a few months time so have been eagerly searching info. Got to say it doesn't exactly fill me with anticipation. dissappointed - Nearly every country, state, and town in the 1st world has been hit by the financial downturn, but surely there is more to life than gloom and doom. I wonder if anyone who lives in Toledo has read this site and put themselves in the shoes of an out of towner. Anyone looking to move to a new area is likely to check out these forums - wouldn't it be nice if there was some encouragement. This in turn would encourage more people to Toledo, after all isn't it the people and relationships that we form that determines how happy we are somewhere? C'mon Toledo's (is that even a word?) what do you do for fun - apart from the mudhens who sound great- are there any markets? any traditions? great restaurants? local food? specialities? Great volunteer or social groups? I really do look forward to hearing from you. Believe me there are lots of people who really are interested, and its the daily stuff on how you live your lives that's interesting. I look forward to hearing from you all ...

We're being realistic, which is generally how Toledoans (that's the word you were looking for) are in real life. We are not the Chamber of Commerce. Would you rather hear what Toledo is really like, or do you just want "POSITIVE!!"? If someone is convinced by this board that Toledo is a happy place of sunshine and candy and flowers and love, they're going to wind up terribly disappointed.

As far as the traffic level goes, look at the boards for similar-sized cities. They're about the same.

If you don't like to drink a lot and watch sports, Toledo will generally bore the hell out of you. The upside is that it's cheap to live here, the suburbs are nice places to raise families, and there's plenty of stuff to do in cities that are not a far drive away.

Markets-there's a farmer's market downtown that sells fresh produce on the weekends during the warm months.

Traditions-4th of July fireworks, like every other city has.

Great Restaurants-Ahmed's on Alexis, Mancy's Steak House on Phillips, Cousino's steak house on the east side, and the Docks off Miami St. have several interesting places as well. Tony Packo's on the east side is an institution, has good chili dogs and Hungarian-American cuisine but is somewhat of a tourist trap. Not a whole lot in the way of haute cuisine. Mostly Middle American food around town with some Eastern European influence, but there are also Lebanese, Chinese, Indian and Japanese places to be found.

Volunteer groups-Pretty much the same as anywhere. Red Cross, Humane Society, food pantries, churches.

There are some annual ethnic festivals (and some others, isn't there a strawberry festival?), Children's Wonderland, the county fair, going to the "beach" at lake erie (I'd recomment Maumee Bay State Park). There are some fairly active neighborhood associations too, but of course that'll depend on where exactly you live and whether or not you're interested in that sort of thing.

I know people are gloom and doom about Toledo, but it's not all unfounded. I have friends that have moved to other cities for jobs that pay 10 bucks an hour. Nothing wrong with that, but it's sad that they couldn't find that in Toledo.

I wish you luck, though! I think Toledo is a great place to be as long as you're secure financially

People are too busy trying to find work to get on and complain to a non-existent moderator or other people who are powerless to change anything in the city. Toledo has a useless Mayor or a EARLESS Mayor. The fine people of Toledo have been making the same requests for as long as I've been living and most likely before that. I grew up in Toledo. 18 years in Toledo, day in and day out. All I heard about was, more jobs, clean up the streets, get downtown busy again and start branching out to the other areas of Toledo. I grew up in the Ol South End and I must say, it is decaying, though the New Bowsher Highschool looks great and the shopping center near the Walmart looks great, everything else is falling apart or remaining unchanged. How much would it take to get some more business in there, prefereabley focused around recreational/educational activities and jobs that youth can obtain. The next generation of Toledoans and their offspring are flocking to other cities such as Cleveland, Cincy and other states for that matter. That in itself should be unacceptable, especially by a city who claims to be family oriented and blue-collar. Give the police back their jobs, give them the funding and leway necessary to do their jobs, get the streets cleaned up, get the jobs back, give the jobs to the youth, bring some fun in!!!!!!!!!!!
