I was just wondering if anyone here can give me an honest job outlook in Toledo. I will be moving to Toledo next year to join my husband who is currently at student at the UT Medical College. I am looking for a job in the legal administrative field (similar to what I am doing here in Atlanta). I would like to know how long is takes to find employment in Toledo. Generally speaking, it is taking around 60 to 90 days in Atlanta and I am just wondering if it will take that same amount of time or much longer. I have heard horror stories that it has taken people as long as 1 year to find employment in Toledo after relocating from other cities. I am truly concerned that this might happen to me and I would love any advice anyone can give on finding jobs in Toledo prior to my relocation. Any advice that anyone can give is appreciated. Have a great week.

It's really bad unless you want to work part-time for $7 an hour. This is the reason why I can't move back to be with my family.

Yes, it's bad. Unless you know somebody, that knows somebody, you'll probably spend 3-6 months looking for a job.

Default There is hope

Toledo could really fall one way or the other in the next few years. Improvements are being made- slowly.

But there is hope. I know there is more than one city or state claiming this title, but Perrysburg, OH, a suburb of Toledo, is the NEW Crossroads of America. This is where interstate 80/90 (New York to Los Angeles), I-75 (Canada to Miami), U.S. 23 from Toledo up through Ann Arbor and the local interstate 475 intersect. Perrysburg was already a growing city when the Hill Partners developers built The Town Center at Levis Commons. This is an upper class retail district surrounded by luxurious apartments, The Owens Illinois headquarters, and the new Dana headquarters. The area is booming and now there is a Bass Pro soon to be completed has just sparked an explosion of more big box stores and retail space.

In Conclusion, Toledo's economy- who knows? Perrysburg- A good bet- Especially for the educated population.

Horrible, but might not be so bad since your in the legal/health care industries. With all the bankruptcies, crime, and foreclosures, lawyers are in demand. So as a lawyer, lawyer's assistant, whatever, you might be ok. Same goes with healthcare....

Most other jobs available right now are minimum wage/fast food, or no benefits. I found my current job in middle managemet-- pays almost double in other areas...pretty sad.

I would agree with all of the above. Economy here is - eh. Jobs - eh. I've been employed with the same company for 4 years and if it weren't for an unexpected promotion I'd still be making around $9/hr. My husband has his own heating & air company which does ok but we can't support the family on just one income. We are moving to NC in about a month to seek more opportunity! Your best bet is to work for the city or state gov't. Good luck!!
