Hello, i am new to the site but have been on it and people seem to get alot of good decent responses from here. My boyfriend and I are considering moving to Canada and i was trying to figure out which city to move too. I LOVE culture and involving myself in different nationalities and i WANT to go somewhere where French is spoken as well. We are in our early 20's, work and go to college so i guess i was just looking for some feedback on the city itself. Also i was trying to find the crime statistics, cultural, attractions, and monthly rent on apartments but havnt had any luck so far.

can anyone help me answer my questions...thanks soo much!!

Toronto is a great city. I'm confident it would have everything you're looking for in a city----except the French. Toronto is very much a multicultural city, but it does lack any sort of real French "connection". In order to get that French feel, you've have to head one province east to Quebec, or go even further east to New Brunswick, Canada's only official bilingual province.

Getting back to Toronto. As for safety, it's very safe. Toronto averages around 55-60 murders a year, a drop in the bucket compared to what a lot smaller American cities experience. The media loves to hype the amount of gun crime Toronto has recently experienced and while there's certainly a lot of truth to it, it's highly unlikely to affect most people, although there have been a few recent tragic examples of innocent bystanders being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Toronto has a cultural city? Sure! I don't really take advantage of it, but I think it's safe to say that Toronto has culture. What's your definition of culture? Every fall Toronto is host to one of the most star studded film fest in the world. If you love plays and musical theatre, Toronto is a great place to be. I think Toronto trails only London and New York when it comes to English language theatre. We have a great art gallery too. Toronto hosts a ton of concerts every year too.

As for the cost of living, the latest stats do show Toronto as being the most expensive city in Canada. Apartments vacancies rates are high due to so many people buying home and condos due to the low borrowing rates, however, rents are still high. Consider spending around $1300 / month for let's say a decent two bedroom apartment.

Does this help?

Montreal would be your best bet ....definitely both for culture and french ...you can get by speaking english but it's better if you can speak or understand french ....it has very good universities too ....McGill ....and Concordia .....Ottawa, Ontario is more english but has alot of french influence as Gatineau, Quebec is just across the river ....Toronto is a large cosmopolitan city ....comparable in size to Philadelphia ...Houston ...or Detroit ....very multicultural ...much more expensive in terms of rent than Montreal ....and minimal french influence ....I would say Montreal would be your best choice ...a fun city ...easy to get around ...and not too expensive to live in ....

LRUA has it right.

Montreal has more of what you're looking for than Toronto.
