Hi everyone,

I'm looking to move to Toronto from New York City in about a month. So far, I've done some research through friends who live / have lived there, but I haven't found any good information for two questions:

- how difficult is it for a foreigner to get a job/work permit in the city?

- how long can one stay in Canada on a Temporary Resident Visa?

I don't have a job lined up yet; I know as British citizen I don't need a visa to enter the country, nor do I need a Temporary Resident Visa. I'm only looking to stay for a year or less.

Any advice would be appreciated *so* much.

I suggest that you have a look at Canada's immigration site for information on how to legally work in Canada and how long a visitor can stay in Canada.

Working temporarily in Canada

Generally speaking, you need to have an offer of employment prior to arrival in Canada in order to obtain a temporary work permit.

You might apply for a working holiday visa which allows you to work and live there up to 12 months. Check this website, I'm sure it will help. I'm applying for that visa next month btw

well, its alot easier than in the US. i dont think they have a cap on how many temporary work visa's they give out, but it should be pretty straight forward.
