We are moving to Markham, Ontario and looking for good / best elementary school for our 9 and 5 year old. Are the public schools in or around Markham good or private schools are a better option. It would be very helpful if you could suggest few very good public and / or private elementary schools. Based on that we need to zero in on a safe family neighborhood. Any suggestions on that ground is also welcome.

Thanx

PS - We are also considering Richmond Hill and Vaughan if they have better schools.

You should try Oshawa, I hear they have the best schools in the Toronto area.

Living in Markham with kids going to school in Oshawa? Not an easy thing to do. There are plenty of quality public schools in Markham.

I was just looking up some rankings for public schools in Markham. Coledale Public School ranks relatively high. It's around Warden and 16th Avenue. All of Markham is safe, so that's one criteria you don't have to worry about when deciding on neighborhoods in Markham.

Thanx for the response, but Oshawa is more than an hours drive from the work place.

Hello Samit, Hopefully you have settled in Markham. Iam in a similar situation now as you then.
Hi, I with my family moving to Markham, Ontario and looking for good/best elementary school for our 9 year old child. Please suggest good schools (public/private). Thank you in advance.

There are alot more Chinese people there (west side, more similar to Richmond Hill too) and Indians on the east side (McCowan rd is generally the dividing line). That explains their 'high' testing scores as they are extremely focused on their studies. However, their social skills might not be up to par (alot more accounting types) if you want them to excel in the world of high finance, law, etc.

A good local source is to google "RedFlagDeals Parenting" and register and post a question there, or do a search on it. Plenty of times this question has been brought up. Vaughn is quite a ways from Markham in Rush Hour if you have young kids if both parents have to commute.

That Oshawa suggestion was made in jest knowing it is the pits. North Oshawa though is much better than south.
