The earlier statement that downtown Toronto is "deserted" on weeknights is absurd, the problem is that poster is from the suburbs and doesn´t know where to go!!

An earlier poster mentioned that if you can´t afford to live downtown, don´t go. I would generally agree with that. I would recommend that if you can´t afford to live within what was the old "city of toronto", e.g. not GTA, you will lose out on the city´s greatest charms. That being said you don´t have to live right downtown.
