Hello from Chicago!

I am planning on visiting Toronto for the first time later this month. I will be staying at a downtown hotel off Church/Carlton.

I'm sure I'll have some more questions but here a few off the top of my head:
1. What's the easiest way to get there from the Pearson Airport (YYZ)? Train? Taxi? Airport Shuttle? Approximately how long/far is it?
2. What is there to do in that area of town? I do like touristy things, shopping, open to a [gay] bar/lounge
3. Do I need to convert USD to CAD? Or will you accept American Dollars (in the event I need to use cash - cab fare tips, etc)?
Thanks in advance for your help~

1. There is no train. Depending on your hotel, the dedicated Airport Express bus may be the easiest solution, but it is also possible to access downtown via public transit (TTC).

3. Do you absolutely need to convert USD to CAD? No, but you'll be unlikely to receive a fair exchange rate when using USD. Use your ATM card to make a local withdrawal to obtain CAD.

You'll be an easy walk from Yonge Street, and there are plenty of shops and restaurants there. Eaton Centre is a huge shopping mall. The shopping on Bloor Street is a bit more upscale.

Church Street is the heart of Toronto's most prominent gay neighbourhood, particularly close to Wellesley Street.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Love shopping - is Eaton Centre and Bloor Street walkable from the hotel location?

It's an easy walk from your hotel. If you get too tired just hop on the streetcar or the subway.

Have a really great trip and I hope the weather is good and not too hot the way it has been lately.
