Default The underground city

If possible, live near a métro(subway) station. You will be linked to stores, restaurants, movie theatres, theatres, concert venues, offices and may not even have to wear any boots or coats. When the snow hits and you aren't into outdoor stuff, everything submerges in winter. Otherwise, skating in Old Montreal or parc Lafontaine or cross country skiing on Mont Royal will keep you busy.

Question is about Toronto, not Montreal.

This kind of thinking is why people who don't like winter really don't like winter.

The more you avoid the cold the more likely you are to suffer from depression. The best route with winter, is buying good clothes, and that means stuff you can wear at -50, and take walks, skate etc.

Toronto only has two months with highs averaging below freezing, and even then we're talking -1C. Yeah really it's not that bad winter-wise.

I've never said....Oh its snowing, lets not go out.

Examples of Toronto events that have nothing to do with "winter weather".

New Years Eve at city hall square. 30 thousand people cheering in the new year, outdoors, despite the weather.

The Santa Claus Parade, hundreds of thousands of people, standing on the sidewalks, watching a two hour parade go by.

daily public skating at city hall square, from November to March, goes till 10 pm.

Outdoor hockey rinks, all over the city, busy from morning to night, 7 days a week.

Toronto Maple Leafs home games, at the Air Canada Centre. Most peoplke take the subway, and walk the three blocks to the arena.

The entertainment district, dozens of clubs, every night of the year.

Live stage theatre, all year round, over 40 theatres in Toronto.

The Royal Ontario Museum, the Art gallery of Ontario, all open 7 days a week.

Remember the subway runs UNDER the snow fall, and real Canadians don't let a snow fall get in the way of a good time.

Jim B

Toronto.
Great post.

Often hear this kind of statement...what does it even mean? Someone from Phoenix should love 50C scotching heat because he is from Phoenix? It makes absolutely no sense.

Human bodies are built pretty much in the same way, which means 99.99% of human beings will feel more comfortable when it is 10C in the winter than when it is -10C. All this we are Canadians so we love the winter kind of talking is simply self denial. Canada is a cold country and it can never be an advantage.

I'll tell you how having a cold winter can be an advantage....

Canada's cold winters kill off all those creepy crawly poisonous danagerous insects and critters
that places with warmer winters have to put up with.
