You know what, car workers and cashiers want to be bankers too, they just can't. If we have nothing but blue collar workers, the city and province will probably get little tax revenue to spend on services and infrastructure.

The top 10% of the population pays the lion's share of taxes in Canada and the US. The top 1% in Canada earn $200K+ and pay 55% of all taxes. The top 1% in the US earn $370K+ and pay 71% of all taxes. The bottom 50% in both countries pay 2-4% of total taxes. People need to realize this.
In addition, people in the top 10% primarily get there by hard work and sacrifice. There is no free ride like some people assume.
And not only do they pay the highest taxes but they are the ones who make society more productive and generate wealth and opportunities for everyone. The scientists, management teams, and doctors are the ones who have a greatest impact in increasing living standards for all. People seem to forget this point as well. There are some scheming professions out there that make money and do not make necessarily society better (like some legal practices or sales practices for e.g.) but they are a small minority of the top 10%.
