No conspiracy questions - it's a valid question why they chose yesterday to break this news when the investigation had been ongoing for almost a year. They happened to be debating the bill yesterday, and it was interesting how, immmediately after the police press conference, Conservative spokespeople were lined up to do a full-court press explaining to the public why this revelation only reinforces the reasons why these very controversial laws should be passed. The thing is, law enforcement didn't need any etraordinary powers to complete this investigation and get the job done, so why the pressing need for these laws?

No one's doubting the veracity of the plot, just the timing of the revelation. These are valid questions.

Although not massive by international standards, it is extremely rare in Boston. Although the perpetrators "only killed" four, they hospitalized up to 200 others, many of whom are horribly maimed.

The city was shut down to enable the police to hone in on the suspects and to protect the citizenry from randomly placed IEDS. I think they did a commendable job and now one of the criminals is in the hospital and will be able to be questioned. Did you see the video of the citizens applauding the police as they retreated?

Talk about copy cat authoritarian actions. What about native groups who block rail way lines all the time? These guys should have been picked up and there should have not been a big fan fare. Criminals and potential criminal are common...To start waving the flag of panic say Canada is under terrorist attack is stupid....any nut can derail a train...this is not a big deal. Canada should stop trying to keep up with their big brother to the south...pick em up - try them and lock them up- I don't want to hear a sensational report followed by "There was no imminent danger" - what's that about?

One of the two suspects had bought a flight ticket , to leave Canada. That was the reason for moving in on them.

In such a investigation, it is normal to "let it run ' to see who ELSE might be involved, and to get as much evidence as is possible, for the eventual trial.

If you were paying attention, at the news conference, there were six different Police agencies involved, from the RCMP, to OPP and regional forces that surround the Toronto area and the QPP. These suspects were under a 24 hour surveillance blanket, and they didn't make a move that wasn't being observed, and video recorded. Of course their internet use and phones were also being monitored, as well.

As for timing. Have you noticed that there is a pattern to the cases here in Canada, such as the Toronto 18, where the suspects were allowed to THINK that they had bought REAL explosive materials, but which were actually INERT materials, that could not explode? That is a part of managing a case, so that actual harm is not done, but the suspects are still convicted, as those idiots were.

In this latest case, one of the suspects had a Al-Quida flag on his LinkedIn website, there for all to see.

Both have been living in Canada for a number of years, legally, but neither is a Canadian citizen.

Toronto.
