You sound paranoid for no reason. Have you never driven through a large city in rush hour before?

It's not difficult really. I see new immigrants, the elderly, out of towners, and young drivers driving on the main freeways in Toronto everyday. If they can handle it, I'm sure you can. Just make sure your stomach is full, your bladder is empty and stick to the lanes on the further right if you're paranoid about aggressive drivers or missing your exit.

That said, using the 407 is the "easier" but more expensive drive. The highway is smoother, not as busy and is not a collection of express/collector lanes and construction like the 401. However, there is no direct access to the 407 from the 401 east of the city. You'll have to take Brock Rd in Ajax and get up to Markham before you can get on the 407. This may negate any time savings, and add to the complication instead of just taking the 401 to the 403/QEW.

ummm when are you driving, so I'll know not to be on the road with you?

just kidding. You'll be fine.

Personally I think driving in the city is safer. I hate driving out in the country, where I regularly see people crossing the painted median going up a hill.
